Today is the very first Monday of 2020!
I know, I know, Monday’s can be tough, especially after a holiday and/or vacation.
But because of the time off and the excitement of the New Year, I for one am ready to attack this particular Monday, and all 51 to follow.
So here are a few tips to get you through today and beyond…
Set Your Intention for the Day – When that alarm clock goes off while it’s still dark and cold outside, it’s easy to allow that morning haze to turn into frustration and even anger, that can carry throughout the morning and day. Take a few deep breaths before even getting out of bed and ask yourself, “what do I want out of today?” I can pretty much guarantee you the answer is not grumpiness, but that’s typically where we find ourselves these first several Monday morning hours. So dig a little deeper and set an intention that is positive, goal oriented and impactful for all parties involved in your day (YOU, your family, your coworkers/clients, etc.)
Attitude of Gratitude – Now that your intention has been set to have a positive, productive day, your next goal is not to overwhelm yourself with all that tasks at hand, but rather be grateful for all you get to do today. It’s so easy to get caught up in the mundane and feel like you’re just going through the motions, but taking a step back to appreciate all that you do have will help to eliminate some of that heaviness and help you better understand your purpose. Without knowing your “why,” and being appreciate for life’s opportunities, it’s easy to get sucked into behaviors that do not help us improve (ie, negative self talk, self sabotage, comparison, etc.). So while drinking your coffee on during your morning commute, take a moment to think of at least three things you are so very grateful in life, and keep those in mind during your hectic day!
Take Action – You are the only thing standing in the way of your goals. It’s the things you do or do not do on a daily basis that keep you from achieving what it is you want. Today, and each day after, I want you to take at least one action towards your ultimate goals. Whether you’re toying with the idea of running a marathon this year, or you want to lose the 20 lbs that have crept on over the past year or so, or you simply want to get healthier and more active, it all starts with that one simple step in the right direction, and the commitment to those daily habits. And that starts TODAY!
