Ok, so let’s talk New Years Resolutions.
Some may roll their eyes at this particular topic because it is assumed we should make and achieve goals year round.
Wouldn’t that be nice!?!
But we all know how it goes. Life often gets in the way and those grandiose ideas we had back in January start to slow down by summertime, and by the time we hit that stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we’re barely able to even keep up let alone accomplish any new feat.
So there is just something exciting about turning the page on a new year feeling as if we get another chance to try again. When the holiday dust settles, normal schedules resume, and we can finally breath again, then we’re ready to attack some goals.
Thus the clichéd New years Resolution.
And I say why not? It’s fun to start the new year off with some enthusiasm.
So let’s do it, let’s set some big goals for 2020, but unlike years past, let’s actually do it this year!
But how will this year be different from the rest?
Here are three crucial tips on how you ARE going to accomplish those goals this year…
DREAM BIG – “If you’re dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.”Don’t put limits on yourself and what you can accomplish. We all have those big scary goals we’re afraid to share with anyone, or even ourselves for that matter. But if you really want it, why not go for it? What do you have to lose?
First, I want you to Identify what it is you want to do. What is your dream goal for 2020??? Then ask yourself the following:
- Why it is important to me?
- How will it positively impact my life WHEN I achieve it?
- What opportunities will achieving this goal open up for me?
- What will it take to accomplish this goal?
ACTIONS – “Don’t just about it, be about it.”It’s great to take time to for goal setting. Just putting them down and/or our there is terrifying enough, so good for you for even taking the time to do so! But to achieve said goals, you absolutely must take action and create habits.
Now that you have established your dream goal for 2020, your next task your game plan. So you’ll want to ask yourself the following:
- What is the timeline for my goal?
- What smaller goals can I set to help me achieve my ultimate goal?
- What can I do daily to help me achieve my goal?
- How am I going to stay on track with my goals?
ACCOUNTABILITY – “What gets measured (and supported), gets accomplished”You have your goals, you have your plan, so how are you going to keep at it when life gets in the way?
Here’s where it can get a little tricky. So identifying how to continually measure your action goals as well as setting up your support system will be imperative to achieving your dreams. So with your goals and your action plan in mind, ask yourself the following?
- How can I quantify my goals daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly?
- Who in my life can I count on to keep me accountable?
- What resources will I need to help keep me on track?
- How can I get additional support for my goals?
Take some time this week to dream about what you want out of your health and fitness for next year. Answer those questions and use that as your game plan to get the ball rolling on these goals. Refer back to this (particularly the Dream Big piece on your why when the going gets tough).
